  • The Withey lab attended the first Midwest Vibrio Summit at the University of Indiana in Bloomington May 18-20. Postdoc Dhrubajyoti Nag gave a talk entitled, "Effect of glucose metabolism byproducts of Escherichia coli on Vibrio chloerae colonization in zebrafisth." Ph.D. student, Paul Breen, presented a poster entitled, "Internal vs. External Pressures: the Effect of Housing Systems on the Zebrafish and Tank Water Microbiomes."
  • Matthew Fountain would like to remind all students that there is a BMI graduate student meeting on Thursday, May 31, from 12-1:00 pm in room 7364. There will be voting to fill leadership positions and discussions about the summer term and upcoming academic year. Pizza will be provided.
  • Dr. Kezhong Zhang (BMI Retreat Faculty) and colleagues in his laboratory in the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics discovered a novel microRNA degradation pathway in liver that connects to lipid metabolism and is involved in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. The work was published in Science Signaling.

  • Nicholas Spellmon, Ph.D. Candidate, will present his defense, "Alternative Stategies to Inhibit Lysine Methyltransferases and Deubiquitinases in Human Cancers" on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 10:00 am in room 3125.
  • The next Faculty Meeting has been moved to Thursday, June 14, at 11:30 am.
  • The BMI Picnic will be held on June 21 at 1:00 pm at Belle Isle Park, Shed #14. The office is accepting donations, $20 faculty, $5 non-faculty. It is BYOB and you are encouraged to bring a dish to share.
  • Immunology Focus Group Seminar: Speaker, Dr. Michael Nishimura, Professor and Co-Director, Oncology Institute Director, Immunologic Therapeutics Program, Loyola University. Title: "Antigen Recognition by T-cell Receptor-Transduced T-Cells". Tuesday, May 29, 2018, 12-1:30pm, Wertz Auditorium, (Hudson Webber Cancer Research center, 2nd floor).   • The date for the BMI Departmental Canvas Training Session is on Wednesday, June 6, 11:00am-1:00pm in room 7364 Scott Hall. April will be sending out more details closer to the date.
