News
â- Major News! Congratulations to Dr. Allen Rosenspire on being awarded his R01 grant! Project Title: "Understanding the connection between exposure to mercury, auto-immunity and tolerance in B cells."
â- Congratulations to Tyler Peters, Amruta Jambekar, and Dr. William Brusilow on their paper being accepted by the Journal of Inflammation. Title: "In vitro suppression of inflammatory cytokine response by methionine sulfoximine". This paper demonstrates that both isomers of methionine sulfoximine exhibit a significant suppression of the inflammatory immune response leading to production of cytokines IL-6 and TNF-alpha. These studies demonstrate that we can suppress inflammation with a small molecule. It has been known for decades that the LS isomer inhibits glutamine synthetase, but it has heretofore been thought that the LR isomer was inert. These studies demonstrate that existence of a novel target for this drug that can be exploited to treat the inflammatory immune response involved in toxic shock, sepsis, arthritis, pancreatitis, Crohn's disease, and a wide variety of inflammatory disorders involving IL-6 and TNF-alpha.
