â- We note the passing of Sir Aaron Klug, a structural biologist who began his studies of virus
structure working with Rosalind Franklin. Departmental Events
â- This week's departmental seminar will be given by Dr. Rozanne Sandri-Goldin on Friday,
November 30 at 1:00 in Mazurek Commons 301-302, as part of the Dr. Tom Holland Retirement Symposium. BMI graduate students are invited to meet with Dr. Sandri-Goldin in the departmental library from 10:00-11:00 Friday morning. Dr. Sandri-Goldin is Professor and Chair of the Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics at the University of California, Irvine. Drs. Sandri-Goldin and Holland were post-docs together at the University of Michigan. Dr. Sandri-Goldin is an international leader in studies of herpes simplex virus gene regulation. She is a member of the American Academy of Microbiology and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Virology. Dr. Sandri-Goldin is a strong advocate for equality of access to opportunities in science.
â- Thomas Holland Retirement Symposium - Friday, November 30, 2018, in Mazurek 301-303, 8:00am-5:00pm. The program will include some outstanding speakers. Agenda to follow closer to the date. Please note: The 7th floor Library will be used on this day for students to meet with the speakers and the 7th floor Lounge will be open for guests to gather in between events.
â- Next BMI Faculty meeting is Thursday, December 6th, 11:30am-12:30pm, 7364 Scott Hall.
â- BMI Winter Gathering is Friday, December 7, 2018, 11:00am-3:00pm, 7370 Scott Hall. There is a sign-up sheet on main office door for dish to share (appetizer, dessert or beverage). Donations: $20 Faculty, $7 Students & Staff. Donations can be given to BMB M.S. student, Alexander Ochocki or BMI office staff.
