- Congratulations to Isabella Cubillejo (Withey lab) for being awarded an Honorable Mention for her poster at last week’s Chuan-Pu Lee, Ph.D., Endowed Graduate Student Research Presentation Day (GSRPD). A big thanks to Nouran Yonis (BMB PhD program) for her contributions as a member of the event’s organizing committee. Dr. Lee was a long-time member of the former Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. A story with a list of award winners is available here.

- Speaker: Rita Colwell, Ph.D., Distinguished University Professor, University of Maryland, College Park and John Hopkins University. Dr. Colwell is well known for her contributions to understanding cholera outbreaks and improving access to safe drinking water internationally. Dr. Colwell has served as the Director of the National Science Foundation (NSF) and is a past president of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) and the American Association for Advancement of Science (AAAS).
