News: 

• Congratulations to Ph.D. candidate, Yingxue Zhang, for successfully defending her dissertation, “How the Structural Uniqueness Makes SMYD Proteins so Special”.  Advisor: Dr. Zhe Yang 
• For those who did not see this from School of Medicine Newsletter: Invitation to all, students, faculty, staff, alumni.  To Event: “Celebrate with return to campus with Summer Social/Welcome Back” on August 5th, 3 to 7p.m., in the Margherio Family Conference Center.  Click on link for details.  RSVP for the event here.  

Upcoming Events: 

BMI Department Picnic will be Friday, August 26^th, at Belle Isle Park, starting at 11.00 am, at Shelter 3, Belle Isle Park. 

• BMI Social Committee will be coming around to labs to collect donations. Suggested donations are: $5 for students & $20 for faculty. All donations are greatly appreciated. You can also electronically donate via PayPal to Emiley Swensen (@emzi123). 
• The Student Social Committee will be providing the main dish which will be catered by Slows To Go. Alcohol is permitted but will not be provided. Sides or extra dishes to pass are more than welcome. Please see the attached flyer for details.
