Please mark your calendars!  We cordially invite you to our SoM Thematic Research Initiative 2nd Mini-Symposium, which will include a pizza lunch from 12 -3 PM on Wednesday, March 26, in the Blue Lecture Hall, Scott Hall. This event is part of the Dean’s research initiatives, with the goal to:

  • Enhance collaborations and promote joint grant applications.
  • Provide seed funding for innovative and collaborative projects.
  • Host quarterly research mini-symposia to foster dialogue across disciplines and provide an informal platform to learn about our colleagues’ research. 

The focus of the 2nd mini-symposium will be on the thematic areas of Immunology, Inflammation & Infectious Disease and Oncology.

Additionally, an announcement regarding seed funding will be made during this event.

Symposium Presenters:

  • Eric Sebzda (I3D, BMI): “Peripheral-derived regulatory T cells are necessary for tumors to escape immune detection”
  • Guojun Wu (Oncology): " Unraveling the Molecular Mechanism of FOXQ1 in Breast Cancer Lineage Reprogramming."
  • Yuan He (I3D, BMI): “The NLRP3 inflammasome: Mechanism of action and role in disease”
  • HyeonJoo Cheon (Oncology):  “The Multi-faceted Roles of PD-L1 in Cancer.”
  • Hasan Korkaya (Oncology): “Tumor-immune interactions regulate systemic immune microenvironment”
  • Ladislau Kovari (Core, BMI): “WSU and LS-CAT at Argonne: A collaborative hub for structural biology”
  • Jessica Back (MICR Core) “How the Microscopy, Imaging, and Cytometry Resources (MICR) Core Can Support and Advance Biomedical Research” 

Following the presentations, there will be an opportunity for networking and discussions with Dean Sakr, the speakers, and all participants from 2 to 3 p.m.
