The Flu Shot Documentation process for BMI Faculty and Staff:

All faculty follow the same outlined process as the outlined campus process.  Both faculty and staff must email their documentation directly to their School of Medicine Human Resources consultant, Ataul Usman ausman@wayne.edu and to the Campus Health Center (CHC) (campushealth@wayne.edu) prior to coming to campus. Options:

  • If you obtain your flu vaccine from the CHC, you must only provide a copy of your medical documentation to your SOM HR consultant, Ataul Usman ausman@wayne.edu.
    • If you decline to receive the vaccine you should complete the Vaccine Declination Form, attach the medical documentation (if applicable), and email the form and any documentation directly to their SOM HR consultant, Ataul Usman ausman@wayne.edu and to the CHC (campushealth@wayne.edu).
    • If you obtain your flu shot at another location outside of Wayne State, you should obtain documentation that includes the date, their name and information about the vaccine provided (as there are two different vaccines provided) and send the documentation to their SOM HR consultant, Ataul Usman ausman@wayne.edu and the CHC (campushealth@wayne.edu).

In any case, the HR consultant will notify your supervisor that you have satisfied the requirement. All protected health information will be maintained with restricted access to ensure the privacy of this information.

• Join us for the BMI Retreat 2020 on Friday October 30, from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM. The purposes are to learn what goes on in labs across the department and in labs of our extended faculty, and to get to know each other better. The program will include 3MT talks from our faculty, brief research presentations from students who are in at least their second year, and a talk from a postdoctoral fellow. The keynote talk will be given by Dr. Maik Hüttemann from the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics (also a member of our Retreat faculty). Dr. Hüttemann will speak about “Mitochondrial mechanisms of neuronal ischemia/reperfusion injury and a novel therapy”. More details to come.

•  The 24th Annual C.P. Lee Endowed Graduate Student Research Presentation Day (GSRPD) is going virtual.  Join us on Thursday, November 19, 2020 via Zoom as we celebrate another year of graduate student STEM research at Wayne State with keynote speaker Dr. Marlene Belfort of University at Albany - SUNY.

Due to time limitations of a virtual format, we will feature 5 oral presentations and 20 poster rapid-fire presentations this year. As tradition, the top 7 presentations will receive monetary awards, so get out there and show us what you've got!

Keep an eye out for more details to come soon! For more information, like us on Facebook, follow us on Instagram, or visit the 2020 WSU GSRPD website. Questions can be directed to conference co-chairs, Shreya Banerjee and Madison Walton, via email at gsrpd@wayne.edu.
