• BMI Faculty meeting this week, Thursday, October 1st, 11:30 AM. Zoom invitation to follow.
• BMI Retreat update: The 2020 BMI retreat will be held Friday October 30, from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM. The purposes are to learn what goes on in labs across the department and in labs of our extended faculty, and to get to know each other better. The program will include 3MT talks from our faculty, brief research presentations from students who are in at least their second year, and a talk from a postdoctoral fellow. The keynote talk will be given by Dr. Maik Hüttemann from the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics (also a member of our Retreat faculty). Dr. Hüttemann will speak about “Mitochondrial mechanisms of neuronal ischemia/reperfusion injury and a novel therapy”. Mark your calendars; details will follow.
• Wayne State flu shot mandate for all faculty, staff and enrolled students who plan to be on campus for any day this fall, or winter receive flu shots by October 15, 2020. Click on link for details: https://i.wayne.edu/view/5f690536874ab The flu shot will be available for no-out-of-pocket cost to all enrolled students if administered by the Campus Health Center. They will bill your insurance, if you have it, but if insurance does not cover the cost, you will not be billed for the service. Appointments are required. • The 24th Annual C.P. Lee Endowed Graduate Student Research Presentation Day (GSRPD) is going virtual. Join us on Thursday, November 19, 2020 via Zoom as we celebrate another year of graduate student STEM research at Wayne State with keynote speaker Dr. Marlene Belfort of University at Albany - SUNY.
Due to time limitations of a virtual format, we will feature 5 oral presentations and 20 poster rapid-fire presentations this year. As tradition, the top 7 presentations will receive monetary awards, so get out there and show us what you've got!
