News:
• On April 25 and 26, Dr. Ann Kwong will visit our campus to give the prestigious Very Fay Righthand
Seminar in Virology. Dr. Kwong will lecture about discovering and developing a SARS-CoV-2 3CL proteases inhibitor (PBI-0451) currently in clinical trials to treat COVID-19. This is Dr. Kwong's second visit to WSU; she also visited us in 2007. She is an internationally recognized expert in antiviral drug discovery and development. The 2020 Gertrude Elion Memorial Award from the International Society for Antiviral Research is among her many achievements and accomplishments. Gertrude Elion received the 1988 Nobel Prize in Medicine for innovative methods of rational drug design. Dr. Kwong is an industry leader with more than 30 years of drug discovery and development experience. She played a crucial role in developing Incivek, a hepatitis C virus protease inhibitor approved in 2011; Pimodivir, a first in class influenza A PB2 inhibitor, currently in Phase 3 clinical trials; Merimipodib, an IMPDH inhibitor; and Agenerase, an approved HIV-1 protease inhibitor. Her seminar title is "Discovery and Development of PBI-0451, a Novel Oral Protease Inhibitor for the Potential Treatment of SARS-CoV-2."
