Mission and Aim: To facilitate the discussion and effective implementation of computational and analytical techniques among biomedical researchers in the School of Medicine and Wayne State University.

CiBORG activities:

• Computational biology and bioinformatics seminar series. In addition to the seminars, the speakers will have career development interactions with students and fellows.
• Software and Data Carpentry workshops. In these two-day workshops, participants will learn the fundamentals of programming including command line operations, version control, and an introduction to Python (Software Carpentry) and acquire fundamental computational skills needed for data management and analysis (Data Carpentry).
• CiBORG discussion meetings. CiBORG will provide a venue for focused yet informal discussion of current literature and effective implementation of contemporary computational techniques in biomedical research among Wayne State University graduate students, postdocs, and faculty. As WSU laboratories implement new computational tools in their research, we invite sharing of processes, including helpful tips, caveats, and hands-on proof-of-concept demonstrations, with the broader CiBORG community.
